…and much more to warp your mind!

Yes, we’re back! Lots of news for you this time—things have been running full steam over here at the Barrel stable. No rest for the wicked, as they say. So kick back, order another round, and listen to the news.

Last House on Dead End Street
A bit more to report on the Last House front. We’ve recently had the pleasure of adding a few more extras to the already loaded platter. Firstly, we had the honor of meeting up with director Jim (Charlie’s Family) Van Bebber in Burbank, CA while working on the film to tape transfer with Roger. Jim’s been a LHODES fan since the tender age of fifteen, when he saw it at a drive in triple-bill in Dayton, Ohio. Thanks to the generosity of Jim and death-metal icons Necrophagia, we’re including the Van Bebber-directed Necrophagia video clip They Dwell Beneath as a special extra. It’s a nasty piece of work that pays tribute to LHODES in an… interesting way. A big thanks goes out to Killjoy of Necrophagia and to Jim Van Bebber. No rest for the wicked, indeed!

We’ve also uncovered around thirty minutes of very rare outtakes from the 16mm workprint. Not to mention Roger Watkins’ and Paul Jensen’s 1975 appearance on The Joe Franklin Show and a sixty minute radio interview from 1973 that has Roger and actor Ken Fisher discussing the making of the film.

Headpress editor and Barrel operative David Kerekes has managed to track down a few of director Roger Watkins’ partners in crime. Steve Sweet (of hoof-felatio fame), Ken Fisher (the lover of cows), Ken Rouse (the hunchbacked whipper) and Paul Jensen (the blind man) are all being interviewed as we speak for the giant booklet he’s preparing exclusively for this release. Ever wonder what could possibly be going through the mind of a man forced to suck on a dirty deer’s hoof? Trust us, this will be the last word on The Last House on Dead End Street.

Legendary comix artist Steve Bissette is hard at work on the DVD cover painting, which will, as he describes it, be a montage of sorts including the poster’s ‘last house’, victims writhing in pain, and a special emphasis on the deer hoof scene(!). We’ll be sure to post some samples of the artwork once it’s ready. This cover art will house the limited two-DVD disc set, which will be loaded with all the extra features. There will also be a more stripped-down single-disc release. Watch this site for more details on the disc lineups. We plan to officially announce the title very soon. You can expect a February/March 2002 release date.

Return of the Loving Dead
We recently started work on Nekromantik 2, Jörg Buttgereit’s sequel to his 1987 classic. Producer Manfred O. Jelinski has already started gathering extra material and work on a new stereo soundtrack. Here’s a taste of what’s to come:

  • Nekromantik 2, digitally mastered from the original camera negative under the supervision of producer Manfred O. Jelinski!

  • Film transferred with a Spirit DataCine™ high definition film scanner
  • German language with all new removable English subtitles!

  • New stereo sound mix and original mono!

  • Full running audio commentary by director Jörg Buttgereit, co-author Franz Rodenkirchen, and actors Monika M. and Mark Reeder!

  • Fifteen minutes of never before seen outtakes and trims from an early cut of Nekromantik 2!

  • The Making of Nekromantik 2, 25 minutes of behind the scenes footage!

  • Rise Up, a video clip from The Krupps, directed by Jörg Buttgereit and staring Monika M!

  • Manne: The Muwi, an early Buttgereit Super-8 short subtitled in English for the first time!

  • Over 100 behind the scenes photos from the collection of Manfred O. Jelinski and Jörg Buttgereit!

  • Soundtrack CD containing the complete scores for Nekromantik and Nekromantik 2!

  • Liner notes by Buttgereit biographer, David Kerekes and Jörg Buttgereit!

  • Much, much more!

Nekromantik Repress Out Now!
Yes, the eagerly awaited second pressing of Jörg Buttgereit’s Nekromantik has finally streeted. Its distinguishing marks are a black Alpha case (instead of a red Amaray), slightly different disc art… and no topspine barcode sticker (leave it to the replicators to mess something up)! Anyway, the disc is now available again, so keep your (pig’s) eyes peeled for it! As they say, they’re going fast…

We still have a small quantity of signed & numbered Nekromantik DVDs available. For those who may not be aware, Jörg signed and numbered 500 copies and each one is going for $43 priority postage paid. These are the only copies of the first pressing we have left in stock. Interested buyers for this collector's item should email us for more information on ordering and availability. Don’t let the small quantity available discourage you from ordering now!
